Memory club was started with the purpose of doing what one can to delay dementia. Prevention of dementia is not in our hands as human beings have yet to learn about the intricate functioning of the brain. But a lot is known about what to do to maintain brain’s health. Memory club is based on twelve sutras derived from current knowledge about the brain. These include
- Physical exercise
- Maintaining heart health
- Balanced Diet
- Reducing stress
- Challenging activities for the brain
- Improving social life
- Adequate sleep
- New learning
- Creative thinking
- Involvement in Volunteering and/or hobbies
- Keeping away from drinking and smoking
- Preventing brain injury
Memory club is meant for anybody who is interested in improving the functioning of the brain. It is however not meant for dementia patients. Conducting stimulating activities for dementia patients needs a different approach and such an activity called as “Memory Lab” is held in Deenanath Mangeshkar hospital.
Memory club provides interesting and motivating activities to the members in different areas such as – language, mathematics, science, language learning, general knowledge. Each session of the club is unique. Exciting activities of the Club also help to improve social life as well as promote new learning and creative thinking. Discussions and lectures arranged on useful subjects provide necessary information to advance brain’s fitness.
Memory club was started in July 2014 at Erandawane Jyeshtha Nagrik Sangh and is held every Tuesday between 5.30 to 7 p.m. The sessions are so popular that the Club meets all along the year.
Another branch of the Club has recently completed its second year in Nashik area.
