डॉ. कौस्तुभ दिंडोरकर (प्रमुख न्युरोसर्जन – दीनानाथ मंगेशकर हॉस्पटल, पुणे )
विषय: न्युरोसर्जरी – मेंदूचे आजार, उपचार आणि व्याप्ती
सन २०२६ मधील हे पहिले व्याख्यान, अत्यंत माहितीपूर्ण तसेच विचार करायला उद्युक्त करणारे असे होते. डॉ. दिंडोरकर यांनी आपले व्याख्यान एका प्रभावी वाक्याने सुरू केले, “Time is Brain.” यातूनच त्यांनी मेंदूशी संबंधित आजारांमध्ये वेळेचे महत्व अधोरेखित केले.
डॉ. दिंडोरकर यांनी महत्वाची गोष्ट सांगितली की सध्या मेंदूशी संबंधित समस्या केवळ वृद्धांपुरत्या मर्यादित राहिलेल्या नाहीत, तर तरुण वयातही त्या वाढताना दिसत आहेत. विशेषतः आजच्या पिढीत attention span कमी होणे ही एक गंभीर बाब असल्याचे त्यांनी नमूद केले.
मेंदूबाबत एक अतिशय महत्त्वाचा मुद्दा मांडताना ते म्हणाले, मेंदू जरी शरीरावर नियंत्रण ठेवत असला, तरी तो शरीरातील प्रत्येक प्रणालीकडून सतत feedback घेत असतो.
म्हणूनच केवळ मेंदूची नाही, तर संपूर्ण शरीराची काळजी घेणे अत्यावश्यक आहे.
आधुनिक न्यूरोसर्जरी या विषयावर बोलताना, नवीन वैज्ञानिक प्रगतीमुळे न्यूरोसर्जरी मध्ये कसे क्रांतिकारक बदल झाले आहेत, हे त्यांनी सोप्या भाषेत समजावून सांगितले तसेच वाढलेले वय आणि त्यासोबत येणाऱ्या समस्या यासंबंधी माहिती दिली. जीवनशैलीशी संबंधित आजार, पचनसंस्थेच्या तक्रारी,अपघातांमुळे उद्भवणारे न्युरोलॉजिकल प्रश्न अशा महत्वाच्या मुद्द्यांवर त्यांनी सविस्तर चर्चा केली.
मेंदू आणि मणक्याच्या आजारांची तुलना करताना त्यांनी सांगितले की spine related problems अधिक प्रमाणात आढळतात. याठिकाणीही लवकर निदान आणि त्वरित उपचार अत्यंत आवश्यक आहेत हे त्यांनी अधोरेखित केले.
कुठल्या परिस्थितीत मेंदूची किंवा मणक्याची शस्त्रक्रिया आवश्यक असते, यासंदर्भात घ्यावयाची काळजी, कुटुंबाची जबाबदारी हे सर्व त्यांनी समजावून सांगितले. आजच्या काळात बहुतेक रुग्ण शस्त्रक्रियेनंतर पूर्णपणे बरे होतात, हा दिलासादायक संदेश त्यांनी दिला.
त्यांनी सांगितलेले ज्येष्ठ नागरिकांसाठी काही महत्त्वाचे मुद्दे खालीलप्रमाणे –
– आज अनेक ज्येष्ठ नागरिक एकटे राहत असल्यामुळे स्वत:च्या आरोग्याची जबाबदारी स्वतः घेणे फार महत्त्वाचे झाले आहे.
– संपूर्ण वैद्यकीय इतिहास जाणणारा एक family doctor असणे आवश्यक
– डॉक्टरांना प्रश्न विचारायला कधीही संकोच करू नये
– कोणत्या लक्षणांसाठी त्वरित डॉक्टरांकडे जायला हवे, हेही त्यांनी स्पष्ट केले
– मणक्याची (spine) काळजी कशी घ्यावी, याबाबत मार्गदर्शन केले तसेच
– Fall prevention वर त्यांनी विशेष माहिती दिली.
आज सगळ्यांनाच चिंता वाटणाऱ्या डिमेन्शिया संदर्भात आजाराचे प्रकार आणि कारणे सांगून त्याबद्दलचे गैरसमज दूर केले.
कोणत्याही वयात नवीन गोष्टी शिकता येतात हे सांगून त्यांनी मेंदूचे आरोग्य राखण्यासाठी सतत कार्यरत राहा हा महत्वपूर्ण संदेश ज्येष्ठांना दिला.
एकूणच हे व्याख्यान अत्यंत माहितीपूर्ण, आश्वासक असे होते.
उपस्थितांनी मोठ्या संख्येने प्रश्न विचारले आणि डॉ. दिंडोरकर यांनी त्याला अत्यंत संयमाने, आणि सविस्तरपणे उत्तरे दिली.

The first lecture of the year 2026 was held on the 31st January from 4.30 pm to 6.00 pm at Deenanath Hospital, Pune, and was delivered by Dr. Kaustubh Dindorkar, Neurosurgeon, on the topic ‘Neurosurgery – Brain problems, treatment and scope.’
He began the session with the powerful message – “Time is Brain,” explaining that quick action is very important in brain-related problems. He mentioned that presently brain and neurological issues are seen not only in older people but also in young individuals. Attention span in the younger age group has reduced which is a cause of concern.
He highlighted that although brain controls the body, it needs to receive feedback from entire body, hence taking care of overall health is essential. Dr. Dindorkar explained how new science and technology has helped develop imaging techniques, other instruments etc. which have made neurosurgery more advanced and effective. He then spoke about how ageing, lifestyle changes, digestive issues and trauma have given rise to various neurological issues. He mentioned that spine-related disorders are more common than brain problems. He stressed that early diagnosis and timely treatment are necessary, especially for senior citizens who often live alone and need to manage their health independently. He also explained the conditions where surgery is required and reassured that most patients even in old age recover well after surgery.
He advised everyone to have a family doctor who knows his/her complete medical history, to ask questions to a doctor without hesitation, to understand when to consult a doctor, to take proper care of the spine, and to focus on fall prevention.
He also addressed concerns about dementia, explained its types and causes, and gave a positive message that at any age people can learn new things and create new memories.
Overall, the lecture was very informative, and many participants actively asked questions which were answered patiently by Dr. Dindorkar.
