Even though terms such as Alzheimer’s and dementia are known and are associated with lowering of memory, general awareness about dementia is quite low among the Indian society. Awareness also includes causes and symptoms, as well as nature of the disease.
Awareness development has been emphasized and over fifty awareness programmes have been conducted. Awareness sessions cover important aspects of dementia and dementia care including information about difference between age associated memory loss and dementia and maintaining brain’s health.
We create awareness about dementia through :
Talks at senior citizen clubs
Mangala Joglekar has delivered more than 50 lectures to develop awareness about dementia. The talks are organized in Jyeshtha Nagrik Sangh’s, Mahila Mandals and at other gatherings to address concerns about memory issues. The lectures cover topics such as common memory slip among senior citizens, age specific memory loss and reasons behind it, what could be done to maintain brain health and when are memory problems considered serious? Information on dementia and caregiving tips for dementia patients are also discussed.
Memory camps to promote early detection are also conducted occasionally.
